Sister Angela Mary Doyle

The name "Sister Angela Mary Doyle" and Mater have gone hand in hand for more than 50 years. However, when she arrived in Brisbane from Ireland in 1948, Sister Angela Mary thought she would be utilising her training and skills as a teacher. Instead, the young novice was despatched to Mater to train as a nurse.

Sister Angela Mary completed her Diploma in Nursing Administration at the College of Nursing in Brisbane in 1964. However, hospital administration, rather than nursing administration, was to be her strength and Sister Angela Mary was Administrator of Mater hospitals for 22 years. In response to the continuing need to raise funds for research and new health care services, Sister Angela Mary became Executive Director of Mater Trust from 1993 to 1997 and served on the board until 2003.
