Mater Children's Hospital has a coordinated training program extending from basic training through to registrar and advance training, as well as fellows positions in subspecialty areas. Trainees can enter the program at any level but those who enter in their first year of basic training will enter either as a Junior House Officer or Senior House Officer. These positions involve rotating over a two-year period through eight different rotations as follows:
At the end of this period trainees will be well positioned to apply for a registrar position which again is a coordinated program rotating through all the subspecialty areas outlined previously as well as the following:
Fellows positions are also available and vary from year to year. Commonly, positions are available in respiratory medicine, neurodevelopmental paediatrics, endocrinology, child protection, neurology, haematology and oncology but positions can also be arranged in other subspecialties depending on trainees interests.
Mater Children's Hospital also has a very active formal postgraduate teaching program. Positions run from January to December and appointments are made in the October prior to commencement. Applicants need to have their application submitted by the end of July to be considered for these positions.
