Mater Private Hospital Brisbane offers a 12 month Oncology Transition Program to help you attain the essential competencies required to provide quality care for patients and their families living with cancer. The program is designed to enhance your clinical and leadership skills and develop an ongoing commitment to professional development from the beginning of your career.
From diagnosis to cure or palliation, Mater Private Hospital Brisbane's Oncology Transition Program offers challenging opportunities to exercise your clinical problem solving abilities. As you progress from nursing student to proficient practitioner, your hands-on, competency based training will be enhanced by a balance of clinical and theoretical components. Your learning will be tailored to your individual needs and goals.
You will develop assessment and clinical skills to help patients receiving:
- chemotherapy
- radiotherapy
- biotherapy
- peripheral blood stem cell transplantation
- allogenic bone marrow transplantation.
Placement
Working in our 58 bed acute Haematology/Oncology Unit, you will gain valuable experience caring for patients with leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and solid tumours.
Support
You'll receive support from clinical nurses (Oncology Support Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse and Nurse Educator) and have access to Mater Education Centre resources.
Commencing each year, the Program includes a 40 hour orientation course presented by Mater Education Centre over five days.
