Philanthropic support

Mater Little Miracles run ongoing campaigns to provide philanthropic support to the hospital. Donations to Mater Little Miracles help purchase life-saving medical equipment, improve patient care and ensure our world-renowned research team continues to find better ways to diagnose, treat and ultimately cure life-threatening diseases.

Mater Little Miracles' mascot, Miracle Max, regularly visits children to brighten their day whilst in hospital. Patients can also take him home as Miracle Max plush toys are donated to each patient who attends the hospital.

History

Mater has provided care and support to countless children and their families for over 80 years.

In 1931, the Mater Children’s Hospital opened its doors to the sick and injured children of Queensland and beyond. Then in 1998, Mater established Australia’s first private dedicated paediatric hospital: Mater Children’s Private Hospital.

In 2014, the combined services of Mater Children's Hospital and Royal Children's Hospital were transferred to a new government-owned and operated tertiary facility: Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

Since that time, Mater has continued to provide exceptional care for paediatric patients at Mater Children’s Private Brisbane. Located in the former Mater Children’s Hospital building, the area has been refurbished and the building name changed to Salmon Building, in memory of Mother Alban Salmon. The newly-refurbished private service provides access to Queensland's leading paediatric doctors, nurses and other care providers.
