Mater Children's Private Brisbane

Back in 1998 when Mater Children’s Private Hospital first opened its doors, it was Australia’s first private hospital for sick children. Since that time, Mater has provided care for thousands of children and their families through a team of exceptional staff and outstanding visiting doctors.

Today, Mater Children’s Private Brisbane continues to provide Queensland families with access to leading paediatric doctors, nurses and care providers from admission to discharge at our new look stand-alone facility for families who choose to self-finance or have private health insurance. Detailed information is provided to assist parents and patients through the process of coming to hospital, during your stay, going home from hospital and care after discharge.

Located in the former Mater Children’s Hospital building, the area has been refurbished and the building name changed to Salmon Building, in memory of Mother Alban Salmon.

Mater Children's Private Brisbane provides a range of clinical services all conveniently from the one location:

  • Inpatient Ward on level 7
  • Medical Day Unit on level 7
  • Surgical Day Unit on level 5
  • Sleep Unit on level 4 (Queensland's only dedicated paediatric sleep unit)

Visiting hours

Hours for visitors are from 7 am to 7 pm. Parents are free to visit 24 hours per day.

Mater Children's Private Brisbane works with highly qualified paediatric specialists to provide exceptional care for your child.

Specialists at the hospital provide a wide range of clinical services for children while they are in hospital and also to support their health care needs while at home.

Children will require a referral from a GP or other medical practitioner to see one of Mater’s exceptional specialists.

If your child presents to Mater Private Emergency Care Centre and after assessment requires admission to hospital, if clinically appropriate, patients will be admitted to Mater Children’s Private Brisbane. Alternatively for tertiary level care, patients would be transferred to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

Patient Information

Mater Children's Private Brisbane has developed a range of patient information brochures covering a variety of conditions, treatments and procedures to keep patients and parents informed about their care.

Your safety

At Mater we value your safety above all else.

Our Patient and Carer Escalation (PACE) program allows family members/carers to escalate any concerns they may have about a patient’s condition at any time, day or night. It is important to raise any concerns as early as possible.

For more information on how to raise any concerns, learn more about our PACE procedure.

Our performance

At Mater, we remain vigilant in ensuring we provide the highest safety standards.

Whilst it is essential that Mater maintains quality, safety and care, we also require all of our patients and visitors to take a conscientious role in supporting our efforts to retain this level of excellence by; following all safety instructions as well as immediately advising a Mater representative if there is a safety or care issue.

As part of our commitment to safety, Mater tracks our latest safety and performance data for all of our hospitals through our SafeQuest website.

Philanthropic support

Mater Little Miracles run ongoing campaigns to provide philanthropic support to the hospital. Donations to Mater Little Miracles help purchase life-saving medical equipment, improve patient care and ensure our world-renowned research team continues to find better ways to diagnose, treat and ultimately cure life-threatening diseases.

Mater Little Miracles' mascot, Miracle Max, regularly visits children to brighten their day whilst in hospital. Patients can also take him home as Miracle Max plush toys are donated to each patient who attends the hospital.
