Children's play area

Being stuck in a bed all day can get very boring, which is why Mater Children’s Private Brisbane has dedicated indoor and outdoor play areas for children to enjoy. Siblings and other young visitors are also welcome to join in.

Reading and colouring in room

Hospitals can be busy places and our reading and colouring in room provides a quiet space for parents or guardians and children to take some time out. There are also iPads located in the room for children to enjoy.

School

Being in hospital doesn't necessarily mean children have to miss out on school. At Mater Children's Private Brisbane we aim to create an environment that enables children to continue with their normal daily activities. School teachers visit children on the ward daily to assist and delegate activities in accordance with their level of schooling; dependant on the child's current wellbeing. The teachers spend time with the child explaining the activity and encouraging the parents to participate also. If suitable, the child is taken out of the ward and down to the on-site school to interact in group school activities with other children.

The school is available during normal school hours and terms.

Captain Starlight and Radio Lollipop

Captain Starlight and Radio Lollipop visits Mater Children’s Private Brisbane regularly so while health professionals focus on treating illness, Captain Starlight is the super hero who captures a child's imagination and creates a healing environment filled with entertainment, fun, laughter and joy. Captain Starlight’s role may seem simple – playing games, telling jokes and performing magic tricks – but it’s a critical part of a child’s overall care and can help children through their most challenging moments.

Delta Therapy Dogs

Delta Therapy Dogs is a heartwarming program that brings the joys of animal companionship to those who need it most.

Delta’s amazing and devoted volunteer Therapy Dog Teams brighten the lives of an estimated 20,000 Australians in hospitals and care facilities every week.

Their world class program is the largest of its kind in Australia with volunteers and their special dogs making regular visits to Mater Children's Private Brisbane to offer the wonderful benefits of pet therapy, spend time with patients and offer a chat, a floppy ear to listen and a paw to shake.
