The Welcome Lounge at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is a state-of-the-art facility that provides an inviting space for patients to wait before they are taken to surgery. The overall vision for the lounge is to reduce patient waiting times and transport through the hospital, provide a single point of access to patients for their doctors and improve admission and discharge processes.
On presentation to the lounge, patients are welcomed by friendly reception staff into a quiet, relaxed space complete with leather armchairs, iPod entertainment (including music, movies and TV series), a large screen television, two high-speed Internet access stations and a reading area.
From here, nursing staff prepare patients for their surgery. Once ready patients relax in the comfortable pods of the “gown lounge” where there is also Internet access and unique art work to admire.
When it’s time for surgery a transport team transfer patients from the Gown Lounge to the operating theatre.
For patients visiting the hospital for day surgery, their support person is able to collect them from the Welcome Lounge as soon as staff give them the all clear to return home. Patients staying overnight will be transferred to their patient room.
