Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service (ADAWS)

The Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service (ADAWS) is a voluntary program for young people from 13 to 18 years of age who are experiencing problems with their alcohol and/or other drug use and have made the decision to withdraw and detox. ADAWS also provides an Assertive Outreach program and an Artspace program which offers support after detox.

The residential (live-in) program has been operating from two houses in Clarence Street since 2000.

Mater Health Services is building a new purpose-built ADAWS facility on the existing site, with a design that is in keeping with the character of the street and neighbourhood. The facility will comprise a three-storey building over three residential blocks at 36–40 Clarence Street.

Hancock Street Car Park and Auditorium Project

Mater Health Services’ Raymond Terrace Car Park is being demolished to make way for the new Queensland Children’s Hospital.  As such, Mater is undertaking a crucial step in the delivery of the new hospital by building a new car parking facility on the grounds of St Laurence’s College.

Once fully operational, the Hancock Street Car Park will provide approximately 1,500 parking bays for staff and visitors of Mater Health Services, the Queensland Children’s Hospital and St Laurence’s College.

The Hancock Street Car Park is being constructed in three stages:

Stage one

Stage one opened to the public on Monday 2 November, marking the first major milestone in the delivery of the new Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Stage two

Construction is now complete on levels 4 and 5 of the car park. Some external works are still under way, including the bridge link to St Laurence's College and the school playing field on the top level, which is scheduled for installation in May 2010.

Stage three

Construction of the 1500-seat Auditorium continues for St Laurence's College. The structure is taking shape with the structural steel and pre-cast panel installation continuing.
