After just one year Mater Mother's Hospital has screened some 8000 infants for hearing loss under Queensland's “Healthy Hearing” program.
In the past, hearing problems in babies were often not detected until they were two or three years of age, however the new program ensures all Mater newborns are screened prior to discharge from hospital.

Queensland Diabetes Centre at Mater has introduced a new program called DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating) which is an innovative, educational and patient-centred course designed to help people with Type I Diabetes. Type I Diabetes is a chronic condition where the body fails to produce the hormone insulin, leading to glucose build-up in the blood.
