The family fun event previews Mater’s commitment to the Springfield community, as we look to expand our services by opening a new Mater Health Centre in Brookwater later this year.

Mater Children’s Hospital Nursing Director Cathy Keyte said the Lone Pine visit was a chance for children, many of whom may be in hospital over Christmas, to have a cuddle and get their photo taken with the much-loved animals.

Mater Foundation Executive Director Nigel Harris welcomed the donation of six pallets of baby goods—including nappies, baby food and baby bath products—and thanked IGA for their ongoing support throughout 2011.

“We are very thankful to IGA for their generous donation which will be passed on to economically disadvantaged patients at the Maternity Refugee Clinic and the Murri Clinic, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients,” Mr Harris said.

Mater Health Centre Hope Island, on Broadwater Avenue, will include specialist suites, allied health services, radiology/medical imaging, a Mater pharmacy and a Mater Pathology collection centre.

The Learning in Practice Awards recognise industry leaders who have demonstrated excellence in the design and delivery of employee development programs.

Mater Private Hospital Redland was named Australia’s best private hospital and—for the second year running—the best hospital in the state followed by Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital, which received the National Silver Award and also the State Silver Award.

The equipment will be donated to two hospitals—Mater Hospital in Nairobi and the Mutomo Hospital run by the Sisters of Mercy.

Six weeks later her baby girls were born at 28 weeks gestation weighing approximately 1.1kg each.

Each year Mater Children’s Hospitals treat more than 130 000 children and Mater Mothers’ Hospitals provide life saving care to approximately 2000 critically ill and premature babies in the Neonatal Critical Care Unit—one of Australia’s busiest neonatology units. The name ‘Sister Angela Mary’ and the Mater have gone hand in hand for more than 50 years. After she arrived in Brisbane from Ireland in 1947, having left behind her close-knit family and friends, she was called upon to work as a nurse at Brisbane’s Mater Hospital.

One hundred years ago, on 14 August 1910, the Sisters of Mercy opened a 130-bed private hospital (now known as Aubigny Place) on Mater Hill at South Brisbane.

But whatever your situation—staff at the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals booth at this year’s Pregnancy, Babies & Children’s Expo hope to help.

Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital and Mater Mothers’ Hospitals recorded a total of 901 babies born last month—44 more than the previous record set in May 2009. Of those, 465 were girls.

The conference, which was designed for specialists interested in developing or growing their private practice, featured a comprehensive program set against the backdrop of the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove.
