Continence and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Pelvic floor physiotherapy services are available for all patients within the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.
This specialty service involves the acute and on-going management of various forms of pelvic floor dysfunction including:
immediately following birth (perineal trauma, etc)
bladder and bowel incontinence in women, men and children
female prolapse and pelvic pain
pre and post gynaecological surgery
pre and post prostate surgery
Most pelvic floor physiotherapy care at Mater operates within an outpatient setting, requiring a highly specialised level of skill, privacy and advanced technical equipment.
How to access our services
Women who are registered to have or have had their baby at Mater Mothers’ Hospital, or patients who have attended Mater Hospital Brisbane are eligible for these services.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy services are also available to the general public—women, men and children with GP and/or specialist referral - please contact us to enquire.
Mater Mothers’ pelvic floor physiotherapy services are available for all patients at Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Services, eligibility criteria, and cost to the patient will vary according to particular services required, referral basis and whether you are a registered non-insured or insured patient at Mater Mothers’ Hospital or Mater Hospital Brisbane.
Most patients will be eligible for our services within the hospital at no charge; however there may be a fee associated with some products and services.

Referral requirements to access continence and women’s health pelvic floor physiotherapy vary according to the patient group (mothers, women, men or children) and whether you are a registered patient at our hospital.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy appointments may require either a General Practitioner or specialist referral.

Hours of operation
Allied Health Reception and Outpatient Services: Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4.30pm. Closed on weekends and public holidays.
Inpatient Clinical Services: Mater Hospital Brisbane: Monday to Sunday, 7.30am to 4.00pm.
Mater Mothers Hospitals: Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4.00pm, Saturday and Sunday 7.30am to 1.00pm.
Out of hours evening shift (Monday-Friday) and oncall services are provided across Mater Hospital Brisbane and Mater Mothers Hospitals based on clinical need and medical referral.
