Mothers Services

Pregnancy, birthing and parenting a newborn baby can be a wonderful experience, but there can also be lots of changes, mixed emotions and extra stresses during this time in your life.

Mater Mothers’ Hospitals social workers are members of the antenatal, postnatal and neonatal multidisciplinary teams that provide healthcare and support to you while you are attending Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.

Social workers are available in the following areas of the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals:

Inpatient

  • Postnatal Ward
  • Antenatal Ward
  • Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU)
  • Special Care Nursery
  • Women's Health Unit/Gynaecology
  • Birthing Suites
  • Pregnancy Assessment and Observation Unit

Outpatient

  • General Antenatal Clinic
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit
  • Young Women’s Clinic
  • CHAMP Clinic
  • Drug and Alcohol Clinic
  • Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit
  • Refugee Maternity Service
  • Murri/Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Clinic.

How to access our service

If you would like to see a social worker during your hospital admission, please speak to your doctor, midwife or other allied health professional to refer you. Alternatively, contact the Social Work Department via the telephone number below.

Hours

Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm.

Staff can refer patients and families to the Social Work extended hours service in emergency and crisis situations.  The service operates until 9 pm weekday evenings and during the day on weekends.
