Audiology

“Providing a range of tertiary level hearing assessment and rehabilitation services to Mater Hospitals complex and the statewide community.”

The Audiology Department provides a range of assessment and rehabilitation services to infants, children and adults.

We participate in many multidisciplinary teams throughout the hospital and specialise in difficult-to-test clients.

The Department also runs several specialist programs:

  • The Healthy Hearing Program offers a free hearing test to all babies born at Mater Mothers' Hospital.
  • Mater's Healthy Hearing Program provides ongoing care for babies diagnosed with a hearing loss.
  • Mater's Cochlear Implant Clinic (MCIC) Provides Cochlear Implants and rehabilitation for children and adults with a severe or profound hearing loss.
  • The Central Auditory Processing Assessment Service offers assessment and management strategies for children with auditory processing difficulties.

The Audiology Department also has a strong commitment to research and training of new audiology students and other medical and allied health staff.
