Refugee Health

A priority of Mater is providing care for people of a refugee background. Our services include a range of services regarding Refugee Health including:

Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic

Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic (MRCCC) provides health care to people from refugee backgrounds with complex health needs and a health service to asylum seekers without Medicare.

The clinic offers specialised primary health care including:

  • complex case management
  • treatment
  • specialist referral
  • secondary consultation service for general practices

GPs at MRCCC are unable to expedite referrals more quickly than any other referring GP. They can provide case coordination and additional nursing support to provide health literacy and medication and health promotion education. Both GPs and community members can refer to the clinic.

Refugee Health Connect

Refugee Health Connect (RHC) is a partnership between Brisbane South PHN, Brisbane North PHN, MDA Ltd and Mater Hospital Brisbane.

RHC is a one point of call for assistance with identifying appropriate primary health providers in the Brisbane South and Brisbane North regions. They refer to GPs in the community who provide health assessments in partnership with Mater Refugee Health Nurses who outreach to the GP Practices. RHC also provide information about ongoing care for all people from a refugee background. For more information please see here
