Division of Cancer Services

The Division of Cancer Services is a tertiary oncology service offering all aspects of comprehensive care to patients from Queensland, northern New South Wales and the nearby Pacific.
The division is comprised of several key interrelated clinical elements:
The divisional services within the Mater Adult Hospital treats all adult malignancies. Therapeutically the division utilises chemotherapy (including high dose treatment with stem cell support), biological and immunotherapy, radiotherapy and supportive care modalities. The Palliative Care service is an integral component of the Division of Cancer Services.
Treatment facilities
The day care oncology (ambulatory unit) adult treatment service for chemotherapy and blood products is located on the 10th floor of the Mater Adult Hospital. The unit consists of 16 chairs and four beds in five spacious rooms. The area includes a high-level experienced apheresis service that provides plasma exchange, leukopheresis, and peripheral blood haematopoietic stem cell collection for transplantation. Apheresis services are provided to other hospitals on the campus as required for the management of malignant and non-malignant disease.
The inpatient ward has a 28-bed capacity, with onsite access to a high-dependency unit, full surgical facilities, CT and MRI scanners.
The Adult Medical Oncology outpatient service is located in the Southern Area Radiation Oncology—Mater Centre. Outreach clinics are also conducted at Gladstone Hospital and Ipswich Hospital.
