Interpreter, cultural liaison and other communication services

Mater acknowledges that different cultures respond in different ways to illness and hospital stays. A number of services are available at Mater to support the needs of patients and their families. Please ask a Mater staff member to assist you if:

  • you need a language interpreter or help with communication 
  • you would like to speak to an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer.

Mater Patient Charter (English, Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese)

Mater respects your right to receive healthcare services and we are committed to providing exceptional, patient-focused, high quality and safe healthcare. In order to provide such care, a partnership between patients, carers and families and healthcare providers is essential.

The Mater Patient Charter addresses rights and responsibilities with regard to access, safety, respect, communication, participation, privacy and comment. The Patient Charter explains what you can expect from us and what we expect from you as we strive to provide you with the best possible care.

The Patient Charter is available in Arabic,Chinese and Vietnamese.
