Day Ward

Mater Centre for Maternal-Fetal Medicine is situated on the 2nd Floor of Mater Mothers' Hospital.

The day ward is coordinated by a team of midwives, medical officers and administration staff.

The day ward enables us to monitor your pregnancy at those times when, although extra attention is required, an overnight or longer admission to hospital may not be necessary. An admission to the day ward will involve blood pressure checks, urine and blood tests, a tracing of your baby's heart beat, an ultrasound examination and/or other tests and treatments.

You may have been given an appointment to attend the day ward or be referred directly from the antenatal clinic. During your visit, you will be seen by a midwife and a medical officer. When all the investigations are completed, the results will be shown to the doctor. If they are satisfactory, you will be able to go home. A follow up appointment will be made for you as necessary. If the results are not within normal limits, the medical officer may want you to be admitted to hospital for further management.

This service is available to avoid unnecessary hospitalisation.

Services

Our Opening Times

Monday to Friday
Morning admission: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
Afternoon admission: 1 pm to 4 pm (closed Friday afternoons)

Children

We do not have child care facilities in the day ward. The women who attend the Centre will do so for a short period of rest. Child care arrangements should be made to cover the time of your admission to the day ward.

Refreshments

Hot and cold drinks are available to women with a light lunch before leaving the day ward.

You may need to return regularly to the day ward for review. The midwife will complete your follow-up appointment and issue you with information about subsidised parking.

We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.
