Dr Martyn Tilse graduated from the University of Queensland as a medical practitioner in 1969 and obtained his specialist qualifications in micrology from the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1984. He has been the Director of Microbiology at Mater Pathology since that time.
Dr Tilse has been enthusiastically involved in the use of computers in pathology and most recently with the use of artificial intelligence in pathology reporting. As Chair of Mater's Infection Control Committee he has been intimately involved with the development of Infection Control Guidelines and Safe Practice across Mater's Complex. A Masters of Public Health attained in 1996 has helped him add both an epidemiological and a statistical approach to his work. While Martyn has seen many changes over his working life he is still fascinated by the interaction of man and microbe.
