Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics

Tertiary Development Clinic

This is a multidisciplinary clinic for children less than five years old who have severe or complex neurodevelopmental disorders. Four paediatricians and a paediatric neurologist attend the clinic and liaison arrangements exist with Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Queensland Genetic Service and Education Services. The Clinic is linked to community Child Development Clinic through two Community Paediatricians who attend Mater Clinic.

Autistic Spectrum Disorders Clinic

This is a multidisciplinary clinic for assessment of children with possible ASD.

Neonatal Growth and Development Clinic for Clinical Audit and Research

This is a multidisciplinary high risk neonatal follow up service for extremely premature or high risk infants. The unit is involved in a number of hospital-based and collaborative research programs.

Education

Registrars are welcome to also attend the:

  • rehabilitation Service Clinics for children with acquired brain injury or chronic neuromuscular disorder
  • Spina Bifida Clinic.

The education program includes:

  • a weekly training program prior to Developmental Clinic
  • seminars on specific topics
  • a weekly combined Brisbane North and Brisbane South Training Program in Community Paediatrics.

Registrars are asked to identify their specific training needs (knowledge and skills) at commencement of each term so that the service can seek to meet these needs. Registrars or Fellows in Community Paediatrics will complete their portfolio opportunities in supervised research or EBM Cochrane projects.
