The Adult Respiratory Medicine Department provides a general respiratory medicine service, predominantly to Brisbane’s southern suburbs. This department also provides the regional specialist Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service for Brisbane’s southern side.
The Adult Respiratory Medicine Department is committed to providing patients and their families with the highest levels of care for all respiratory conditions.
Facilities
The Adult Respiratory Medicine Department comprises two consultant chest physicians, a senior respiratory registrar, a respiratory nurse consultant and a respiratory research nurse. (Details of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit are provided separately.)
We have excellent links with other specialty units within the hospital and with other sub-specialty thoracic services in Brisbane. The service includes a multidisciplinary lung cancer clinic.
We provide both inpatient and outpatient diagnosis and management of complex respiratory conditions, utilising facilities for acute non-invasive ventilation, complex lung function testing, integrated cardiopulmonary exercise testing, radiology, flexible bronchoscopy and pulmonary rehabilitation.
The unit is also committed to research in both general respiratory conditions and adult cystic fibrosis and continues to have an active research program.
