Dr Geof Hirst—Chair, Clinical Safety & Excellence Committee


Dr Hirst has had a distinguished career in a wide variety of medical roles since completing his urological training in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada in 1975. He was a transplant surgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital for almost 15 years and in urological practice as a Visiting Medical Officer at Mater as well as in private practice until 2004.

His administrative and other non-clinical roles have included:

  • executive positions with the Urological Society of Australasia and the Australian and New Zealand Association of Urological Surgeons
  • Director of Clinical Services, Mater Children’s Hospital
  • Senior Risk Management Consultant, Mater Health Services
  • Deputy Director, Professional Services Review
  • Director of Surgical Services and subsequently Director of Urology at Mater Health Services (2004 to 2013).

He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Geof currently sits on the Risk Management and Audit Committee, Strategy and Planning Committee and the Clinical Advisory Committee (Chair) at Mater.
