Queensland singer Conrad Sewell is celebrating the birth of his third Mater baby with fiancée Jasmine Hingston poolside at the Emporium, after his daughter Portia Rose arrived two weeks early and just in time for Christmas.
The couple have three children under four, all of whom were born at Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane.
Son Memphis is three years old, their eldest daughter Faith is two, and newborn Portia was born on December 8.
The singer and songwriter was thrilled to meet his new daughter and said her early arrival means they can spend Christmas at their new home on acreage in Brisbane’s western suburbs.
“I’m so proud of Jasmine, she’s really a superwoman and a great mum, and Portia is the best Christmas present ever,” Mr Sewell said.
“We are really looking forward to spending Christmas with both of our families and are expecting up to 30 people for lunch.
“It’s going to be a special day for all of us with plenty of eating, presents and of course there will be lots of music.”
Conrad comes from a family of musicians and recently announced a tour in June 2026 with his Grammy-nominated sister Grace, who will also be at the big Christmas lunch.
Ms Hingston said that even though it will be a busy day, there are plenty of aunts, uncles and of course grandparents who will help with the cooking, cleaning, and cuddling of children.
“Both Conrad and I are one of three kids in our families, so we love big family gatherings, and this year will be extra special as we are now a family of five,” Ms Hingston said.
“Although it was a little scary when I went into early labour, I knew I was in safe hands at the Mater because I had such wonderful experiences with my two other children at the hospital.
“We love that she chose her birthday and it’s nicely spaced from her sister’s birthday and Christmas.” and it’s kind of nice her birthday won’t be right before Christmas.”
But before the big family Christmas this year, the couple who met more than two decades ago when they were just 15, are spending a couple of quiet nights at the Emporium hotel with their newborn.
Mater Mothers’ Hospitals General Manager Kerri Gane said the two-day getaway Moments at Emporium, is enjoyed by hundreds of families each year and provides new families with all the comforts of a luxurious hotel while also having 24/7 access to Mater staff.
“This is a much-loved service for our mothers and their families and enables a unique bonding experience with their newborns, and the peace of mind of having a Mater midwife available, to provide post-natal care and support,” said Ms Gane.
Mater is Australia’s largest and most experienced maternity services provider, and more than 12,000 babies are born each year at Mater hospitals.
