The Mater COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at South Brisbane has marked its first year of protecting Queenslanders against the pandemic.

So far, the team has provided more than 128,000 vaccinations to Mater People, their families and the community.

In addition to the permanent clinic located in the Salmon Building, the team has also operated at numerous locations in support of the state’s vast vaccination campaign.

These community vaccination initiatives have included:

  • Supporting the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre vaccination hub at South Brisbane
  • Protecting First Nations communities across the state, including Cherbourg, Cairns, Mount Isa, the Torres Strait and Cape York
  • Standing up public vaccination clinics at Springfield Tower
  • Vaccinating Brisbane’s homeless in partnership with Micah Projects
  • Opening pop-up clinics at schools and Bunnings stores in South East Queensland
  • Vaccinating people from refugee and CALD backgrounds, in partnership with Mater’s Refugee Health team
  • Opening community vaccination clinics across regional Central Queensland

COVID-19 Vaccination Program Lead Dr Catherine Gilbert said the clinic had exemplified Mater’s values and demonstrated extraordinary teamwork across Mater and with other health organisations.

“Throughout the program we’ve focussed on providing services in a way that is responsive to the needs of the community or group we are supporting,” Dr Gilbert said.

“This level of contribution to Queensland’s COVID-19 vaccination program would not have been possible without the efforts and support of people through all levels of Mater and across many departments.

“We’re so grateful for the successful collaboration we have had with Queensland Health’s Vaccine Command Centre and Metro South HHS, and the contribution of the amazing nurses and AINs, pharmacists, pharmacy techs, admin officers, medical officers and paramedics who have been part of our team for either some or all of this journey.”

Mater advises staff to have a booster vaccine three months after their second COVID-19 vaccination.
Close family members, including older parents who may not live in the same household, can attend Mater’s booster clinic providing they are 16 or older and received their second dose at least three months ago.

The booster clinic is on level 4 of the Salmon Building and is open from 7 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday.

If you or your family members cannot attend the Salmon Building clinic, please consult Queensland Health’s vaccination website.
