Mater Bundaberg celebrates and calls for more volunteers

Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg is celebrating its volunteers — and calling for more — during this year’s National Volunteer Week (16–22 May).

Five volunteers currently work at the hospital, but Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg Executive Officer Catherine Hackney said several volunteer positions were available in administration and hospitality services.

“Our volunteers provide invaluable contributions by working alongside Mater staff to enhance the patient and visitor experience and extend the clinical capacity of staff,” Ms Hackney said.

“We are currently looking for administration and hospitality volunteers to help collate pre-admission and chart packs, as well as to deliver supplies such as toiletries and snacks to our inpatients.

“If volunteering is something you’d like to do, please reach out and join the Mater community of people making a difference to the lives of others.”

Mater volunteer Peter Brown has been working his magic at the hospital for the past four years by caring for the gardens, which he hopes brightens visitors’ days.

Mr Brown encourages anyone considering volunteering to “give it a go”.

“Volunteering makes you feel like you have done something worthwhile,” he said.

“The work was hard when I first started but it now gives me great satisfaction to make the hospital look nice and feel uplifting for all our visitors.”

Ms Hackney said it takes a special kind of person to dedicate their time and energies to helping and making a difference to others.

“We appreciate the contributions of our volunteers every day and we want to give a special shoutout to each one of them this National Volunteer Week,” Ms Hackney said.
