Mater Mothers’ Hospitals across Queensland are adding an extra special tally to the board this week as they celebrate reaching a remarkable milestone in welcoming 10 000 babies into the world for this year.
Whilst the milestone is usually reached closer to Christmas, reaching 10 000 babies came early this year following Mater Mothers’ Hospitals in South East Queensland recently joining forces with Mater hospitals across Central and North Queensland to become a collaborative network of maternity services.
Now with one in five babies in Queensland born at Mater Mothers’ Hospitals, the year so far has been as busy as ever for the country’s largest maternity service welcoming more than 4900 girls and 5000 boys, including 7 sets of triplets and 187 sets of twins.
Whilst the busiest month on the Mater Mothers calendar to date has been June with approximately 1080 babies born, taking the cake for the busiest day of the year so far was Tuesday 1 September where teams welcomed 25 girls and 25 boys born including three sets of twins
Head of Mothers, Babies and Women’s Health at Mater, Dr Mike Beckmann said whilst every birth was a special occasion, reaching 10 000 babies for the year is an extra special celebration for both families and staff right across Queensland.
“2020 has certainly been a challenging year for expectant parents due to the pandemic—making reaching 10 000 babies a milestone worth celebrating,” Dr Beckmann said.
“As Australia’s largest maternity service, we are proud to welcome up to 50 babies into our care each and every day of the year, and are delighted to have already welcomed 10 000 babies into our care this year.”
“It is our privilege to now share moments with many more Queensland families as we work across our state-wide network throughout Brisbane, Redland, Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville.”
Since 1960, Mater Mothers' Hospitals have been privileged to play a special role in many families' beautiful moments every day through preconception, pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.
Recognised as one of the most experienced maternity service providers in Australia, Mater Mothers’ provides exceptional care and support across six leading maternity hospitals, Mater Mothers’ Hospital Brisbane, Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane, Mater Mothers’ Private Redland, Mater Mothers' Private Mackay, Mater Mothers' Private Rockhampton, and Mater Mothers' Private Townsville.
