Biography

Dr Ashraf is a general surgeon with special interest in laparoscopic surgery such as, gallbladder, hernia, colectomy, bariatric surgery, and all other general surgical procedures. Gastroscopy and colonoscopy makes up a significant part of his practice. 

Dr Ashraf was born in Pakistan and obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Punjab in 1991. After finishing his internship he worked as a trainee registrar in anaesthetics. Dr Ashraf moved to South Africa in 1995. He undertook surgical training in East London and Johannesburg from 1996 to 2002. During his surgical training in South Africa he grained intensive experience in General Surgical trauma. He passed FRCS Ireland in 2002 and received a Higher Diploma in Surgery from The College of Medicine of South Africa.

Dr Ashraf moved from Johannesburg to Mackay in 2003 with his wife and three children. He received further training in endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery in Australia. He received Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, FRACS in 2007.

He has been working at Mackay Base Hospital since 2003 and works in private practice as a general surgeon and endoscopist at Mater Private Hospital Mackay on a part-time basis.
