Biography

Dr Naguesh Naik Gaunekar is a much loved and regarded Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Fertility Doctor, bringing a wealth of experience of over 25 years and expertise to his holistic approach to each patient. He believes in a new age medicine, wherein there is a genuine partnership between the patient and the doctor to deliver the best outcome and experience for women and families, be it a couple experiencing infertility, going through a pregnancy and childbirth or needing a gynaecological procedure. His wise counsel and ability to put his patients at ease even in the most terrifying of circumstances is a testament to his empathy and professionalism and is particularly appreciated by his patients.

Dr Gaunekar has expertise in fertility medicine, reproductive endocrinology, high-risk pregnancy, menstrual disorders and endometriosis. Surgically, he specialises in advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and minimally invasive hysterectomy.

Dr Gaunekar completed his specialist training at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Repromed the Reproductive Medicine Unit in Adelaide, and obtained his Australian specialist qualifications (FRANZCOG) in 2004. Before moving to Mackay, he worked as a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaide.

Dr Gaunekar holds additional qualifications in Women’s Ultrasound (DDU) from the Australasian Society of Ultrasound Medicine. He has received several international awards, including a gold medal for MD (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and the Beresford Buttery Travelling Fellowship for ultrasound (2005-2006) at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. In 2007 he represented Australia as the winner of the Young Gynaecologist Award at the Asia and Oceania Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AOFOG) in Tokyo.

He has served on the educational board for ALSO Asia Pacific and the State Committee of RANZCOG South Australia. He is an examiner for RANZCOG and James Cook University’s Medical School and a reviewer for the Cochrane library. He is the Clinical Director of Queensland Fertility Group Mackay and the Chairperson of the Women’s and babies committee at the Mater Private Hospital Mackay.
