Biography

Dr Sam O’Connor is a gastroenterologist with particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease, quality and advanced colonoscopy, oesophageal, dysmotility and capsule endoscopy.

After graduating with Honours from the University of Sydney in 2006 he undertook junior and basic physician training at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. In 2011, he commenced training in gastroenterology in Townsville, before he returned to Brisbane to complete a further two years’ training at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

He also undertook a fellowship in advanced colonoscopy in the United Kingdom at the Gloucestershire NHS Trust.

Dr O’Connor was awarded the ‘Fresenius Kabi Travel Award’ in 2013 by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia to present his abstract on ‘Polypectomy trends in Australia’ at the United European Gastroenterology Week in Berlin. In 2014 he was invited to attend the ‘Advanced Intensive Inflammatory Bowel Disease’ course at the European Crohn’s and Colitis Congress in Copenhagen as part of a select group of junior gastroenterologists.
