Biography

Dr Ryan Sommerville is a Queensland trained Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgeon with a broad interest in all aspects of ENT surgery – both paediatric and adult.

Dr Sommerville is now consulting at Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton and accepting new patients.

Dr Sommerville graduated from the University of Qld in 2000 and then completed his ENT Surgery specialty training in 2008. He then undertook sub-specialty training in Skull Base Surgery in 2010 at the Ospedale Riuniti di Bergamo, Italy under Professor Giovanni Danesi.

Dr Sommerville has a private practice as a part of ENT Clinics, and also has a public hospital appointment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he serves as the Clinical Lead for Skull Base Surgery and the senior surgeon in Robotic Head and Neck Surgery. He has long been involved in teaching medical students and ENT surgery trainees and fellows. At the RBWH, he runs a research unit in advanced head and neck cancer and skull base tumours and also founded a charity to raise funds for skull base tumour research.

In his private practice, Dr Sommerville enjoys the mix of paediatric and adult ENT problems. He has a particular interest in paediatric and adult snoring and sleep apnoea, sinusitis, parotid tumours, head and neck cancer and also ear disorders such as cholesteatoma.

Dr Sommerville lives in Brisbane with his family, and enjoys most sports, particularly cycling and running.

In Rockhampton, Dr Sommerville sees patients at the Mater Hospital Specialist Clinics, but his main rooms are in Brisbane (consulting in Spring Hill and North Lakes).
