Biography

Dr Emma Clarkson is a highly skilled breast and endocrine surgeon practising at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Mater Hospital Brisbane. 

Dr Clarkson holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from The University of Queensland, and started surgical training at Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital before completing her surgical fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. 

She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. 

Dr Clarkson also completed a research surgical oncology fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane as well as being admitted to the degree of Master of Medicine (James Cook University) with a research thesis on implantable biomedical polymers and was then conferred the degree of Master of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery with Distinction (University of East Anglia, UK). 

She returned to clinical practice to complete a surgical fellowship at the Mater Brisbane Hospital in breast, endocrine and surgical oncology followed by a dedicated surgical fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at Westmead Hospital in Sydney. 

Dr Clarkson also holds the two-year BreastSurgANZ post fellowship training qualification in breast surgery and is a full member of BreastSurgANZ. 

Dr Clarkson is also a senior lecturer at the School of Clinical Medicine, Mater Clinical Unit. 

She currently assists general practitioners with the assessment and management of breast and endocrine conditions including malignant breast disease, benign breast disease, patients at high risk of developing breast cancer, breast cancer risk reduction, surgical conditions of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, removal of breast implants (ruptured or intact) placed for augmentation, and immediate or delayed breast reconstruction.
