Mater Speech Pathology offers inpatient and outpatient assessment and intervention services to infants, children, adolescents and adults who present with communication and swallowing difficulties. The service is a recognised centre of excellence in the management of neonatal and paediatric dysphagia, and fluency disorders in adolescents and adults. Our speech pathologists are experts in the assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders. 

Our adult speech pathologists can assist with:

  • swallowing assessment and management for adults who have difficulty eating and drinking
  • education for carers who provide mealtime support for adults who require additional support and/or intervention with their mealtime skills.
  • assessment and recommendations for communication technology and assistive or augmentative communication devices to ensure that adults are able to communicate

Our paediatric speech pathologists can assist with:

  • feeding and swallowing - assessment and treatment for infants, children and adolescents
  • transition to oral feeding
  • feeding therapy programs (jointly with occupational therapists and dietitians)
  • receptive and expressive language delay (assessment and therapy)
  • augmentative or alternative communication support and advice
  • early language stimulation strategies (individual or groups)
  • screening for speech and language delay.
