Biography

Professor Paul Griffin is an Infectious Diseases Physician and Clinical Microbiologist.

Prof Griffin was appointed as the Director of Infectious Diseases at Mater Health Services in 2013 and is also the Head of the Mater Clinical Unit for the University of Queensland School of Medicine.

An accomplished Clinical Trial Investigator, he has been the Principal Investigator in over 150 clinical trials, particularly in infectious diseases, including eight COVID-19 vaccines.

Prof Griffin has published nearly 100 peer reviewed publications with over 4500 citations. He has also published more than 10 book chapters and recently co- authored a book “Frontiers of COVID-19, Scientific and Clinical Aspects of the Novel Coronavirus 2019” published by Springer.

Despite an already demanding role at Mater, Prof Griffin continues to serve as a member of the Australian Medical Association’s Queensland Council 2023-2024 and as a director and advisory board member of the Immunisation Coalition.

He has an active interest in vaccine education and advocacy, becoming a trusted media authority and spokesperson nationally and internationally particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
