The canonical responsibility of Mater Misericordiae Limited was officially transferred to Mercy Partners on 23 April 2013—which means that Mater is no longer owned by the Sisters of Mercy.
Mercy Partners is a Catholic Church entity established in 2008 following approval from the Vatican to ensure the future of ministries operated by the Sisters of Mercy in Brisbane.
Mercy Partners is a Public Juridic Person, i.e. it has a legal identity within the Church in accordance with Church (canon) law. It is also incorporated in civil law under the Roman Catholic Church (Incorporation of Church Entities) Act 1994 Qld.
While significant, this change in ownership and governance does not alter the day to day operations of Mater or its Mission and values. Mater continues to value and hold its historical ties and strong links with the Sisters of Mercy Brisbane Congregation.
