Mater volunteers contribute their unique skills and life experience across all areas of the organisation including our hospitals and non-clinical departments.
Whether it’s offering companionship and support, a cup of tea or a foot massage, escorting people to their destination or providing administrative support, each volunteer role contributes directly to making sure patients and their families have an exceptional experience at Mater.
Our volunteers are a multicultural group from diverse social and professional backgrounds. Finding the ‘right’ role for you is important to us. We will work with you to find a role that suits you and also meets the needs of the organisation.

Volunteering requirements
Due to the clinical environment, mandatory safety requirements and the changing nature of volunteer work required at our hospitals, all volunteers must be able to:
- work independently with limited supervision
- read and comprehend basic safety signs and instructions
- undertake annual mandatory health and safety training (a number of online modules—IT support available)
- communicate clearly and follow instructions
- be independently physically mobile.
