Maddie Power – Mater Mothers’ hospitals
Maddie has demonstrated exceptional leadership in enhancing the maternity consumer experience at Mater. She led the InSync Project, embedding consumer feedback into service design to deliver timelier and person-centred care. By adapting survey methods, she improved engagement and data quality, ensuring mothers’ voices are heard. Maddie also created Mater Mothers Private Facebook Groups, fostering community connection and peer support for over 500 members. Her initiatives have translated digital engagement into real-world support, with new mothers’ groups forming organically. Maddie’s holistic approach has built proactive feedback loops that anticipate needs, close service gaps, and strengthen trust, ensuring every mother feels valued, supported, and empowered throughout her journey with Mater.
Mark Cathcart and Renee Washington – Mater Private Hospital Townsville
Mark and Renee are recognised for their commitment to service quality and Mater’s strategic growth, consistently going above and beyond their roles. They tirelessly coach, support, and train new regional Finance and Operations Managers, equipping them with vast knowledge to ensure efficient and patient-focused facilities. They understand that operational competence directly improves the overall consumer experience. Renowned for their warm, approachable, and patient mentorship, Mark and Renee accelerate competency across the regional business, minimising disruption and ensuring every consumer receives the highest standard of care. Linda Veurman – Mission
Linda has been a dedicated ward volunteer at Mater Mackay for eight years, demonstrating compassion, reliability, and initiative. She assists in paediatric and day surgery wards, mentors new volunteers, and leads initiatives such as creating reusable tote bags from surgical wrap. Linda also supports fundraising, administration, and patient escort duties, often going above and beyond her expected role. Mel Pavey – Mater Hospital Brisbane

Mater Advocacy and Protection Unit Project - Health Integration and Community Care
The Mater Advocacy and Protection (MAP) Unit established a statewide framework for safeguarding vulnerable patients across all Mater services. The project introduced consistent processes for child protection, domestic and family violence, elder abuse, and sexual assault, embedding trauma-informed care into everyday practice. Outcomes include clear clinical guidelines, documentation tools, online learning modules, a dedicated intranet hub, and advisory structures to ensure sustainability. Bronwyn chairs national networks, leads educational podcasts and workshops, and serves as Principal Investigator for the RECENTRE study, advancing digital wellness after cancer. Dr Luke Reid – Mater Private Hospital Mackay
Dr Reid is recognised for his outstanding contribution to regional healthcare as Mackay’s sole full-time ENT specialist for more than a decade. Professor Aileen McGonigal – Mater Hospital Brisbane
Professor Aileen McGonigal is a global leader in epilepsy translational research. She co-authored the 2025 International League Against Epilepsy position statement redefining seizure classification and leads a state-wide service supporting patients with complex epilepsy. Professor McGonigal mentors a multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals and translates research into patient care, including pioneering Stereo EEG and smartwatch monitoring for seizures.
