Gerard Houlihan

Mr Gerard Houlihan was appointed to the Mater Misericordiae Ltd Board in September 2019 and is Chair of the Strategic Development and Sustainable Infrastructure Committee and a member of the Finance, Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee.

Mr Houlihan is a lawyer. Mr Houlihan was a Partner of Rees R & Sydney Jones Solicitors, Rockhampton for more than 36 years and continues to serve in a consulting role. Mr Houlihan is highly respected in both the legal and wider community. Mr Houlihan serves as President of the Queensland Rural & Remote Area Fund Incorporated and also on the Directors’ Nomination Committee for The Capricornian Ltd (Credit Union).

Mr Houlihan’s association with the health and aged care ministries of the Sisters of Mercy commenced with his appointment to the General Administrative Committee of the Mater in Rockhampton in 1991. He was later appointed to the then Health Services Board of the Rockhampton Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in 1994 and he served as Chairman of that Board for five years from 1995 to 2000. When Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland Limited (MH&ACCQL) was incorporated as a separate entity in 2001, he continued as a Director on the MH&ACCQL Board until 2019.

Mr Houlihan is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, having been admitted in 1981.
