Robotic assisted surgery

Smart surgery with robot guidance

Mater is dedicated to transforming the way we deliver orthopaedic care by providing the latest evidence-based technology for our patients.

Robotic surgery, or robot assisted surgery (RAS), allows orthopaedic specialists to perform complex procedures with exceptional precision, control, and flexibility. Often used in minimally invasive surgery, this approach typically involves smaller incisions, which may lead to less pain, faster recovery, and better outcomes.

With advanced computer-guided navigation and high-resolution imaging, the robotic systems help surgeons plan and perform procedures with great accuracy.

Mako robotic arm (Stryker)

Locations

This system can be used to perform:

  • Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)
  • Unicompartmental  Knee Arthroplasty medial (UKA)
  • Unicompartmental  Knee Arthroplasty lateral (UKA)
  • Patello-Femoral Joint Arthroplasty (PFJ)
  • Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA)
  • Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (TSA)

The Stryker Mako robotic-arm system enables surgeons to have a more predictable surgical experience when performing joint replacement surgery. A preoperative CT scan is used to create a 3D virtual model allowing Mako’s software to develop a personalised preoperative plan. Throughout surgery, the Mako system guides the surgeon within the required pre-defined area, helping provide more accurate placement and alignment of the patient’s implant.

CORI surgical system (Smith and Nephew)

This system is used to perform:

The CORI surgical system features robotic assisted technology integrating handheld robotics. The system maps the patient’s knee in real time, meaning there is no need for a preoperative CT scan, and delivers a patient-specific planning process to virtually place implant and predict postoperative joint tolerance through the full range of motion.

  • Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)
  • Partial Knee Arthroplasty (PKA)
  • Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA)

ROSA orthopaedic knee guidance system (Zimmer Biomet)

Locations:

The system is used to perform:

  • Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

The ROSA knee guidance system supports the surgeon to achieve greater precision in knee replacement surgery. The system is designed to work with a patient’s individual anatomy and help orthopaedic surgeons tailor the placement of knee implants. ROSA utilises Zimmer Biomet’s implants and data technologies to redefine robotics by providing real-time insights to optimise outcomes.

VELYS digital surgery (DePuy Synthes)

Location:

This system is used to perform:

  • Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

VELYS digital surgery is an integrated operating platform that assists with the optimisation and digital precision of surgical cuts and implant placement. Orthopaedic surgeons use the device to keep complete control of the procedure while using data that is unique to the knee's anatomy. The system's technology also includes a special camera and optical tracking to provide real-time, exact information.

This allows the surgeon to protect vital structures, minimise soft tissue injury and ensure proper alignment and joint balance.
