Clinical Interests
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), therapeutic endoscopy, endoscopic mucosal resection of colonic polyps, haemorrhoidal banding, diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal bleeding, capsule endoscopy for iron deficiency anaemia, general hepatology, coeliac disease, reflux disease (heartburn), dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), chronic diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome.
Biography
Dr Asif Shahzad is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with extensive training across South Australia and Queensland. He consults at Mater Private Hospital Redland, providing expert care for a wide range of digestive and liver conditions.
He completed his physician training in South Australia, followed by advanced training in general gastroenterology, hepatology, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) at leading
hospitals in Adelaide.
Dr Shahzad was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in recognition of his specialist expertise.
With a particular interest in IBD and gut motility disorders, Dr Shahzed pursued further subspecialty training at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane to deepen his expertise in these complex areas.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Shahzad is a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University, where he contributes to the education of medical students and gastroenterology trainees. He also serves as a College Examiner for the FRACP examination and facilitates Supervisor Professional Development Programs.
Dr Shahzad is committed to advancing best practice in digestive health, including the review of clinical guidelines for General Practitioners, and is dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and personalised care.
