Construction of Mater Hospital Springfield began in 2021 as part of a significant public-private partnership between Mater and the Queensland Government.
The $393 million, nine-storey facility is being built adjacent to the existing Mater Private Hospital Springfield and will offer 174 public beds, an Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, maternity and paediatric services, and operating theatres.
The hospital is designed to address the healthcare needs of the rapidly growing Greater Springfield region, with the population projected to increase by 37 per cent by 2031.
Originally scheduled for completion in 2024, the project has been extended to March 2026 to allow for an even more comprehensive health service offering. The Queensland Government has committed an additional $638 million over four years to support the hospital’s operations, ensuring it opens fully resourced and ready to meet the region’s long-term needs.
Once operational, the hospital will create more than 1,000 permanent jobs, boosting local employment and significantly expanding access to high-quality healthcare in Greater Springfield.
