Mater is Queensland’s largest for‑purpose private healthcare group, caring for communities across the state for more than 120 years. With 17 private hospitals and a unique mix of public and private services, our mission has always been to provide compassionate, high‑quality care for everyone who needs us.
As we prepare to welcome Gold Coast Private Hospital into the Mater network, we want to share what this means for local patients, families and the wider community. Mater’s clinical strengths — including intensive care, cardiology, maternity, cardiac catheter labs and private emergency services — closely align with the services already offered at Gold Coast Private. We also proudly operate Australia’s largest maternity service and care for more patients each year than any other not‑for‑profit hospital group in Queensland.
Our work extends beyond hospital walls. Mater Research drives medical innovation, Mater Education trains future clinicians, and Mater Foundation helps ensure care is available to those who need it most. Together, these parts make Mater more than a health service — they make us a community.
Our heritage is Catholic, and our values are grounded in compassion, dignity and service. Mater has always been a place for everyone — people of all faiths and people of no faith — united by a shared commitment to caring for others.
In our early work together, it’s clear that Gold Coast Private shares this same spirit of excellence, community pride and dedication to patients. The reputation the hospital has built is exceptional, and we are honoured to be joining this community.
Mater and Healthscope are now working closely behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and respectful transition. This planning will help us maintain continuity of care and prepare for the formal handover later this year.
Until that handover takes place, Gold Coast Private Hospital will continue to operate as normal throughout the acquisition process. Patients can continue accessing the same services, with the same teams, in the same way they do today.
We are committed to keeping the Gold Coast community updated as our work progresses. If you have any questions please email us at goldcoast@mater.org.au
