Mater is in the process of finalising a sales agreement to acquire Gold Coast Private Hospital

Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast is located on traditional lands of the Kombumerri people.

Mater brings together more than a century of expertise and compassionate care to improve the health of the western corridor.

We deliver this through the provision of world-leading healthcare – inside hospitals, in people’s homes and in the community, including targeted services for refugee and First Nations communities.

Mater is in the process of finalising a sales agreement to acquire Gold Coast Private Hospital — a significant step that will strengthen the Mater network, expand its Mission, and support the delivery of exceptional, compassionate care for generations to come.

Mater will work in partnership with Healthscope to ensure a smooth transfer of Gold Coast Private Hospital and its workforce, a process which is expected to be completed August 2026.

Mater is Queensland’s largest for‑purpose private healthcare group, caring for communities across the state for more than 120 years. With 17 private hospitals and a unique mix of public and private services, our mission has always been to provide compassionate, high‑quality care for everyone who needs us.

As we prepare to welcome Gold Coast Private Hospital into the Mater network, we want to share what this means for local patients, families and the wider community. Mater’s clinical strengths — including intensive care, cardiology, maternity, cardiac catheter labs and private emergency services — closely align with the services already offered at Gold Coast Private. We also proudly operate Australia’s largest maternity service and care for more patients each year than any other not‑for‑profit hospital group in Queensland.

Our work extends beyond hospital walls. Mater Research drives medical innovation, Mater Education trains future clinicians, and Mater Foundation helps ensure care is available to those who need it most. Together, these parts make Mater more than a health service — they make us a community.

Our heritage is Catholic, and our values are grounded in compassion, dignity and service. Mater has always been a place for everyone — people of all faiths and people of no faith — united by a shared commitment to caring for others.

In our early work together, it’s clear that Gold Coast Private shares this same spirit of excellence, community pride and dedication to patients. The reputation the hospital has built is exceptional, and we are honoured to be joining this community.

Mater and Healthscope are now working closely behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and respectful transition. This planning will help us maintain continuity of care and prepare for the formal handover later this year.

Until that handover takes place, Gold Coast Private Hospital will continue to operate as normal throughout the acquisition process. Patients can continue accessing the same services, with the same teams, in the same way they do today.

We are committed to keeping the Gold Coast community updated as our work progresses. If you have any questions please email us at goldcoast@mater.org.au

As Mater prepares to welcome Gold Coast Private Hospital into our network, we are looking forward to building strong relationships with local businesses, community organisations and industry partners across the region.

For more than 120 years, Mater has been committed to delivering high‑quality, compassionate healthcare for Queenslanders. As we join the Gold Coast community, our focus is on contributing to the region’s wellbeing, strengthening local services and creating meaningful partnerships that support the area’s growth.

We recognise the Gold Coast’s strong sense of community and the important role local businesses and organisations play in shaping it. Over the coming months, we will be engaging with community leaders, business owners and stakeholders to understand local priorities and explore opportunities to collaborate.

Our goal is to integrate seamlessly into the Gold Coast, support the local economy and work alongside the people and organisations who make this region thrive. We are excited to meet you, learn from you and contribute to the future of healthcare and community wellbeing on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Private Hospital continues to operate as normal, and it’s business as usual for your patients. All services, referral pathways and clinical access remain unchanged as Mater and Healthscope work through the transition process. Your patients can keep their appointments, and your usual admitting and referral processes stay in place.

Mater’s statewide network brings added stability, strong clinical governance and a commitment to timely communication with GPs as we move through this period.
