The Mater Convent, home to the Sisters of Mercy since 1926, was repurposed as Catherine’s House, Queensland’s first dedicated perinatal mental health facility.
Located in South Brisbane, the service offers specialist inpatient and outpatient care for women experiencing severe emotional distress during pregnancy and early parenthood.
The facility includes 10 private rooms, two with high-dependency capabilities, where mothers can stay with their babies while receiving team-based support.
Housed in a beautifully restored heritage building, Catherine’s House reflects Mater’s holistic and innovative approach to health, healing, and family wellbeing. It is also a national leader in integrating clinical care with research and education in perinatal mental health.
