Dr John Rivers

Dr John Rivers was appointed to the Mater Misericordiae Ltd Board in September 2019 and is a member of the Patient Safety and Quality Committee and is the Board Chair of Mater Research Ltd.
Dr Rivers is a Cardiologist and an experienced Non-executive Director working in the hospital and health care industry. Dr Rivers has led long term projects for clinical outcomes improvement and medical quality systems with extensive publication on these topics. He is skilled in business planning, business development, risk management, strategic planning, business process improvement, and stakeholder management. Dr Rivers is the Non-executive Chair and Chief Medical Advisor of Cardihab Pty Ltd, an e-health enterprise developed by CSIRO. Dr Rivers is an active angel investor with Brisbane Angels and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Medical Internet Research.
Prior to the 2019 merger of the Queensland Mater hospitals, Dr Rivers was a Non-executive Director of Mater Health Services North Queensland Limited and served as Chair of the Risk and Quality Committee. Dr Rivers is a former Non-executive Director of Wesley Research Institute Limited and former Chair of the Research Committee. Dr Rivers is a former Executive Chair of the former health system regulator, Health Quality & Complaints Commission (now the Office of the Health Ombudsman) and is a former Executive Chair of the Queensland Cardiovascular Group.
In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr Rivers holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance & Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (now the Financial Services Institute of Australasia) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
