Expressions of interest (EOI) are open for Queensland Health midwives to participate in the state-wide Strength with Immersion Model (SwIM) program held at the Mater Mothers' Hospital in Brisbane. SwIM programs are designed to strengthen the future of the nursing and midwifery workforce by supporting early to mid-career nurses and midwives to develop skills in a specialty area or context through clinical immersions.
Further information
- The duration of the clinical immersion is two weeks (Mon-Fri). There is capacity for two people to be on placement at a time.
- The applicant's home facility is responsible for wages for the applicant, including all allowances for the duration of the program.
- Part-time employees are eligible to apply but may need to commit to working full-time for the duration of the program.
- Travel subsidy is available for flights for eligible applicants via local HHS. Subsidy is not available to cover other expenditures incurred e.g., car travel, ride-sharing, and taxis.
- Accommodation will be provided in a hotel in Woolloongabba - walking distance of the Mater Mothers' Hospital, including the night prior to placement and the night following.
- Requests for placements will be considered based on current experience, work unit, and HHS need and placement availability.
- Successful applicants will then be required to submit a learning contract to guide the immersion 2 weeks prior to commencement.
Travel subsidies
- Travel subsidy is available for flights for eligible applicants. Requests for accommodation and mileage associated with travel will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, dependent on location.
- Subsidy is not available to cover other expenditures incurred e.g., food, car travel, ride-sharing, and taxis.
- If a participant wishes to drive to Brisbane in their own vehicle, a mileage subsidy is available in accordance with the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Directive: Motor Vehicle Allowances 20/16 and paid at a rate of 37.5 cents per kilometre. Free parking will be available at the accommodation; however, any parking on the Mater site will be at your own expense.
Applicant requirements
- The applicant is required to outline their learning objectives and how this will be of benefit to their organisation within the below application form.
- On submission, the application will be forwarded to the applicant’s line manager for approval. If successful, this will then be sent to the relevant HHS Executive for final approval.
- The applicant and manager will be updated via email as the EOI progresses through the steps of the approval process.
