We deliver high-quality private emergency services led by specialist emergency physicians, supported by an experienced emergency nursing team.
What to expect
On arrival you will be greeted by one of our reception staff who will organise for an experienced registered nurse to triage you. This ensures that your care is prioritised based on the severity of your condition.
Our facility is fully equipped to handle all emergency conditions with access to specialists, diagnostic tools, and if needed, admission to the hospital for further tests or procedures.
We offer comprehensive emergency services, including:
- 24-hour medical and nursing cover
- 24-hour Catheter Laboratory for acute heart attacks
- 18 treatment spaces
- 16 emergency beds
- Cardiac monitoring
- Slit lamp for eye injuries
- Plaster bed for first-line fracture management
- Intensive Care Unit

Fees
While private health insurance is not required to visit Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast, treatment is provided on a fee-for-service basis. Most patients can claim a portion of the fee from Medicare, but private health funds do not cover emergency department fees.
Different fees apply for:
- In-hours (Monday–Friday, 8 am–6 pm)
- Out-of-hours (evenings, weekends and public holidays)

Out-of-pocket expenses
If you require radiology (x-rays, CT, MRI) or pathology (blood tests) there may be additional out-of-pocket costs. Out-of-pocket hospital fees are not claimable under Medicare or private health insurance.
DVA and workers compensation
DVA Gold Card holders and approved Workcover insurance will not incur an out-of-pocket expense.
Fees for services such as x-rays and pathology may incur additional out-of-pocket costs. The service provider will send you an additional account for these services, however you may be able to claim some of these fees from Medicare.
Discharge
If you require treatment or surgery, you may be admitted as an inpatient. Upon discharge, our emergency doctor will provide you with follow-up care instructions, which may include prescriptions, referrals to specialists, and treatment notes sent to your GP.
