This page contains some of the services available to patients aged 15 to 26 at Mater Hospital Brisbane. 

When admitted, these are free services so if any of the below are of interest, please contact them or speak to your friendly Mater staff for more information.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison

Mater acknowledges the people and the Elders of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations who are the Traditional Owners of the land and seas of Australia. The liaison offers several services for patients who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families

Catherine's House for Mothers, Babies and Families offers an in-patient unit, a parent’s support centre, day programs, and individual consultation for public and private patients who have given birth at Mater Mothers' Hospital in the past 6 months.

Clarence Street

Clarence Street is a free, confidential service supporting young people aged 13 to 25 to make positive changes to their alcohol and other drug use. This is a voluntary service offering a range of programs, including a community team, residential and day programs.

Clarence Street offer a day program. If you would like to visit the team, you can drop in every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with no appointment required! They are located at 36-40 Clarence Street, South Brisbane, QLD 4101.

Emotional Health Unit

The Emotional Health Unit offers specialist mental health care to young adults. This includes an inpatient unit, recovery college and consulting suites.

Kitchen

Please make staff aware if you have any dietary requirements or allergies to food. You can access Room service through the entertainment system provided or by calling 3663 on the phone at your bedside.

Legal Clinic

The Mater Health Justice Partnership provides free legal help to young Mater patients. We offer legal information, advice, referrals and in some cases representation in a range of areas. A representative is available onsite every Wednesday from 10am - 4pm.

Mater Intellectual and Disability Service (MIDAS)

MIDAS aims to improve the health and wellbeing of adults with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disabilities. This service includes a mental health assessment service, advice regarding physical health, and nurse support/consultation services.

Provides confidential and specialised healthcare for people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

Pastoral Care

Mater’s pastoral care practitioners are there to provide you compassionate support as well as practical assistance and will seek to visit you or your loved one during your stay in hospital.

Pharmacy

Mater Pharmacy is located on Level 2 of the Salmon Building. They can dispense scripts and have other items to buy.

Young Adult Support Unit (YASU)

The Young Adult Support Unit sees adolescents and young people aged up to 26 years who have chronic or complex medical conditions.

YASU has doctors, a psychiatrist, psychologists, a social worker, a nurse, and an occupational therapist who are dedicated to helping you live an active and fulfilling life.

Volunteer service

The Mater volunteers’ services include friendly conversation, assistance getting to and from hospital (during work hours) and dog therapy – meet one of the beautiful Mater service dogs on the ward.

If you are interested in any of the above, please let a staff member know so they can contact the Mater volunteers for a visit

Free, anonymous alcohol and other drug support – 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Provides crisis and immediate support and a range of services including housing, health, and family support. Drop in without an appointment from 1 to 4pm, Monday to Friday at 42 McLachlan Street, Fortitude Valley.
