Dr Smith is an orthopaedic surgeon. He undertook his medical training in New Zealand, followed by fellowships in Adelaide at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and The Royal Adelaide Hospital.

He has held the position of Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rockhampton Base hospital since December 2014.

He has a wide range of experience and interest in the field of orthopaedic surgery–in particular hip and knee replacement (primary and revision surgery), shoulder surgery (arthroscopic surgery and arthroplasty), arthroscopic knee surgery, hand surgery and all aspects of orthopaedic trauma
