Biography

Dr Craig Costello is an Australian-trained neurologist practising at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

Dr Costello completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Queensland.

He completed his basic physician training in Townsville and upon completing his physician exams, became The Townsville Hospital’s first Chief Medical Registrar.

Dr Costello relocated to Melbourne to undertake subspecialty training in neurology at Royal Melbourne and Austin hospitals, receiving advanced training under the guidance of leading specialists, ensuring a well-rounded expertise in neurological assessments across a wide range of neurological conditions.

He completed a 12-month neurophysiology fellowship, acquiring specialist skills in electroencephalogram (EEG), nerve conduction studies, electromyography and injectable therapies for neurological disorders.

Dr Costello is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Newcastle.

He completed additional training on a visiting basis at the Calvary Adelaide Hospital in deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease, essential tremor and dystonia.

He subsequently helped establish the North Queensland Deep Brain Stimulation Service, providing access to this critical intervention for North Queensland patients. Regular Deep Brain Stimulation cases are routinely performed at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.
