Biography
Dr Daniel Bird is a dual-specialist Respiratory and Sleep Physician based on the Gold Coast, with a professional journey spanning over two decades across nursing, internal medicine and advanced respiratory care.
Born and raised on the Gold Coast, Dr Bird began his healthcare career in 2004 as a nurse before completing his medical degree at the University of Wollongong. He undertook specialty training in respiratory and general medicine at Gold Coast University Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital, followed by a sleep fellowship at The Prince Charles Hospital.
Dr Bird’s clinical interests include lung cancer diagnostics, bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), interstitial lung disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and complex sleep disorders. He offers comprehensive care to patients across public and private settings, consulting at Gold Coast University Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast.
A passionate educator, Dr Bird holds a Graduate Certificate in Medical Professional Education and holds a position as Lecturer at the Griffith University School of Medicine. He contributes regularly to physician training through bedside teaching, exam preparation and mock clinical assessments.
He has presented original research at state and national scientific meetings and has published across several areas of respiratory and sleep medicine. His ongoing research focuses on non-invasive ventilation in COPD and progressive pulmonary fibrosis.
Dr Bird combines his clinical, procedural and educational expertise to improve respiratory health outcomes and support the next generation of clinicians.
