Clinical Interests

Adult: Bunion and fusion surgery, flat foot reconstruction and cavovarus foot correction, lateral ligament reconstruction, management of foot and ankle trauma, ankle ligament, peroneal tendon and spring ligament injuries, Achilles tendon disorders, Lisfranc fractures and plantar plate injuries, including turf toe.

Paediatric: Clubfoot and flat foot, adolescent bunions, osteochondral defect surgery, and all forms of paediatric trauma, including upper limb injuries.

Biography

Dr Daniel Winson is a dual-trained orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty expertise in adult foot and ankle surgery and paediatric orthopaedics, practising at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. He is committed to delivering comprehensive, personalised surgical care for a wide range of foot and ankle conditions.

Dr Winson completed his general orthopaedic training in Wales, UK, earning his Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2020. He then undertook advanced fellowships in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Paediatric Orthopaedics, training at Queensland’s Children's Hospital in Brisbane, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff, and, under the mentorship of Dr Ben Forster and Dr Michael Lutz in Brisbane.

In 2022, Dr Winson was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital of Wales before relocating to Brisbane, where he received his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Winson holds a Master’s Degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine and has a strong clinical interest in sports-related foot and ankle injuries.

He holds public appointments at Queensland Children’s Hospital, Logan Hospital, and Townsville University Hospital, and provides medicolegal services for Integrity Medico-legal, based in Brisbane. He also contributes to medical education, serving as a senior lecturer at Griffith University and The University of Queensland.

Dr Winson played a key role in establishing the Diabetic Foot Research Hub in partnership with Griffith University, advancing diabetic foot care research. He is also a reviewer for the Foot and Ankle Surgery Journal, the official publication of the European Foot and Ankle Society.
