Biography

Dr David Brown is a urologist consulting and operating at Mater Private Rockhampton.  

Dr Brown underwent specialist urology training in the UK and developed a sub specialist interest in the management of urological cancers including laparoscopic surgery having been trained at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre.  

He worked as a consultant in Fife in Scotland. After retiring from the The Royal Air Force (RAF), Dr Brown emigrated with his family in 2011 to New Zealand before moving to Australia in 2017.  

Dr Brown is an expert in the use of laser surgery of the prostate and is the trainer for Olympus Australia in Laser enucleation of the prostate using the new Soltive laser. This new pulsed Thulium laser has been shown to produce excellent patient outcomes in both prostate and stone surgery.  

As part of his search for excellence in the management of prostate disease, he started using the new iTind device produced by Olympus. He became the first accredited surgeon in Australia in the use of this minimally invasive treatment that has shown excellent results in the management of BPH.  

Dr Brown is an enthusiastic teacher of both medical students and junior doctors and has held positions with multiple universities in the UK, New Zealand and Australia.  

He is committed to the improvement of clinical care to all patients and tries to instil an enthusiasm in all his trainees.  

Dr Brown is active in the Royal College of Surgeons and is the Vice Chair of the Rural Surgery Section Committee.
