Benign and malignant breast diseases, oncoplastic, oncological, therapeutic and preventative breast surgery, lipofilling, local breast perforator flap reconstructions, immediate and delayed breast implant reconstructions, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder, hernia surgery, skin cancers, lymph node pathology and gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Biography
Dr David Lan is an Australian-‑trained Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon consulting and operating at Mater Private Hospital Springfield.
He graduated from Monash University with Distinction and completed advanced surgical training across major tertiary hospitals in Melbourne, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery in 2022.
Dr Lan undertook a breast and general surgery fellowship at University Hospital Geelong before being selected for the prestigious Breast Surgeons of Australia & New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ) Post Fellowship Training Program. He subsequently completed two additional‑ years of advanced fellowship training in breast, endocrine and general surgery at Auckland City Hospital (New Zealand) and Nepean Hospital (NSW).
Dr Lan is a full member of BreastSurgANZ and an associate member of the Australian & New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (ANZES)
His breast surgical practice includes management of benign and malignant breast conditions, with expertise in oncoplastic and oncological breast surgery, risk reducing procedures, lipofilling, local perforator flap reconstruction‑ and implant-based reconstruction.
In endocrine surgery, Dr Lan performs thyroid and parathyroid procedures using intra‑operative nerve integrity monitoring to support nerve preservation. His general surgical practice includes laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repair, excision of skin cancers and management of lymph node pathology.
Dr Lan is actively involved in clinical research, with multiple peer reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings. He is committed to medical education, having taught extensively at Monash University, the University of Melbourne‑ and the University of Sydney.
